ENYI NDIGBO WORLDWIDE AWARD WAITING FOR GOV. SANWO-OLU – CHIEF SOLOMON AGUENE, COMPARES HIM WITH COL. ADEKUNLE FAJUYI, OTHERS

R: Governor, Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene

It was a successful Igbo Day festival for all Ndigbos across Lagos, Nigeria, and in the Diaspora last Sunday 12th December organized by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos under the leadership of President Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene. Many illustrious Igbo sons and daughters converged at the Police College grounds, Ikeja, Lagos. Also present at the event was the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo among other friends of Ndigbo. The event was aimed at celebrating the rich Igbo cultural tradition as well as award deserving Nigerians and non-Nigerians who have been of immense support to the lifestyle and work of Igbos all around the world.

Also expected at the event was the Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu who was also to be presented with the highest honour of Enyi Ndigbo Worldwide Award, that is, the Friend of Ndigbo outside of Igboland Award. However, due to various engagements of state, he could not attend the event. This raised eyebrows among naysayers but the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene has come out to clear the air.

Speaking exclusively to Trek Africa Newspaper about the conspicuous absence of the Lagos State Governor, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu at the event, Chief Solomon Aguene said: ‘Politicians have the way they reason but for me, all my heart and everyone that converged there are for Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He had a lot of engagement the same day. His security details had already come to survey the whole place so for him not to come, there must be something best known to him.’
‘Gov. Sanwo-Olu has made us proud and has given us a soft landing in Lagos. We will always remember him for the hospitality he has given to us, the love he has shown to Igbo people. We belong to the government. We are a part of the government. He is such a detribalized Governor. Ndigbo is no more molested by area boys in Lagos. If anybody has issues, they are the ones who committed the blunder not that the government is against them. I go round to monitor the affairs of Ndigbos in LGs/LCDAs and our major markets like Ladipo, Aspamda and others and I see that there is a great change. He has empowered our youths, widows, traditional rulers, etc. He is worthy of emulation.’

On the special award reserved for the Governor, the culture icon, Chief Ogbonna continued: ‘All I can tell you is that the award Enyi Ndigbo Worldwide Award, friend of the Ndigbos in the diaspora is waiting for him. We can only compare him with Michael Otedola, Adetokunbo Ademola, and Col. Adekunle Fajuyi – these are friends of the Ndigbo. These are men that will not go out of the heart of Igbos. This is the highest honour looking at what he is doing for us.’

The award, he declared, will be presented at a later date. ‘it is a pity that we could not present the award on that day but God knows that some other time, we will present it, there will be appreciation and joy.’
‘We will wait for the Governor to give us time and then we will communicate with other dignitaries so that we can present all the awards’, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo informed.
